2. How We Use AI Services and Share Your Data

Tellit uses third-party AI services to power its core features: voice transcription and journal insight generation. This section explains exactly what data is sent, who receives it, and how it is handled.

2.1 Voice Transcription — Modulate (Velma-2)

What data is sent: Your audio voice recordings

Who receives it: Modulate, Inc. (Velma-2 speech-to-text API)

Purpose: Converting your spoken journal entries into text transcripts

How it is handled:

2.2 Insight Generation — Anthropic (Claude)

What data is sent: Your transcribed journal entry text

Who receives it: Anthropic, PBC (Claude AI — Haiku and Sonnet models)

Purpose: Generating AI-powered insights, reflections, patterns, and Insight Summaries from your journal entries

How it is handled:

2.3 Your Consent

Before any data is sent to these AI services, Tellit asks for your explicit permission within the app. You must consent to AI data processing before you can record entries or generate insights. You can review what data is shared and with whom at any time in Settings > AI & Data.

2.4 Your Data Is Never Used for Training

Neither Modulate nor Anthropic use your data to train their AI models. Your recordings, transcripts, and insights are processed solely to provide you with the Tellit experience and are not retained by these services for any other purpose.

3. Other Third-Party Services We Use

Tellit also relies on the following services to operate securely:

Supabase — Authentication, database storage, user account data, audio storage, session management.

RevenueCat — Subscription status management, Apple In-App Purchase receipt validation, and subscription lifecycle tracking (renewals, cancellations, expirations). RevenueCat receives your anonymous app user ID and subscription purchase data from Apple. RevenueCat does not receive your journal entries, audio recordings, transcripts, or insights.

Apple In-App Purchase — All subscription payment processing. Apple handles all payment information directly. We never see, store, or have access to your credit card or payment details.

Firebase Cloud Messaging — Push notifications (reminders, insights ready, collaboration invites, trial reminders).

Postmark — Account emails (verification, password resets).

None of these services are permitted to sell or share your data for advertising.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

Provide the journaling and insight experience

Reflect your own themes, patterns, and emotions back to you

Generate Insight Summaries that weave in your own words across time periods

Help you organize your entries into Spaces

Manage your subscription and trial experience

Send reminders and trial notifications (if enabled)

Improve app stability and performance

Respond to support requests

Comply with legal obligations

We never sell your information. We never share it with advertisers. We never use your voice recordings for marketing or training without consent.

5. How We Store & Protect Your Data

Encryption

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS)

Data is encrypted at rest on Supabase storage

Audio Processing Pipeline

Your audio follows a privacy-respecting chain:

Recorded on your device

Uploaded to your private Supabase storage (encrypted)

Sent to Modulate for transcription (zero data retention — audio is not stored)

Transcript returned and saved to your private database

Transcript sent to Anthropic Claude for insight generation (not used for training)

Insights stored in your private database

At no point is your audio or transcript accessible to other users, advertisers, or any party beyond the services listed above.

Access Controls

Only authenticated users can access their own data

Internal access is strictly limited

Retention

We retain your entries and account data until you delete them or delete your account. Once deleted, data is permanently removed from our databases within a reasonable time period.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

Access your data

Correct your data

Delete your data

Export your data

Restrict certain processing

Withdraw consent

Opt out of data analytics that use personal information

You can exercise most rights directly through the app. For anything else: support@tellitjournal.com

7. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time via Settings > Account > Delete My Account.

When you do:

Your audio, transcripts, Spaces, insights, saved insights, and profile are permanently deleted

Your subscription is not automatically cancelled — manage your subscription through Apple Settings before deleting your account

Your authentication credentials are revoked

We cannot recover deleted data

This meets Apple and Google's "account deletion in-app" requirement.

8. Children's Privacy

Tellit is not intended for children under 13 (or 16 in EU regions). We do not knowingly store data from children under these ages. If you believe a child has used Tellit, contact us immediately.

Right to data portability

Right to object

Right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority

Our lawful bases for processing include:

Contract (providing the app)

Consent (recordings, insights, AI data processing, notifications)

Legitimate interests (improving product features)

We may update this Privacy Policy as Tellit evolves. If changes are significant, we will notify users through the app or email.
