Tellit ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Tellit app, website, and related services ("Services"). By using Tellit, you agree to the terms in this Privacy Policy.
Tellit is a voice-based journaling app. When you record an entry, we collect:
Space names you create (e.g., Self, Work, Relationship)
Tags, labels, or organizational structures you apply
Your chosen subscription tier (Reflect, Explore, or Unlimited)
Subscription status (trial, active, cancelled)
Trial usage data (entry counts, feature usage during your free trial)
We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information, credit card numbers, or billing details. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple through In-App Purchase.
If you contact us, we may collect your email and the content of your message.
(Used to improve the product — not for advertising.)
Tellit uses third-party AI services to power its core features: voice transcription and journal insight generation. This section explains exactly what data is sent, who receives it, and how it is handled.
Who receives it: Modulate, Inc. (Velma-2 speech-to-text API)
Purpose: Converting your spoken journal entries into text transcripts
Who receives it: Anthropic, PBC (Claude AI — Haiku and Sonnet models)
Purpose: Generating AI-powered insights, reflections, patterns, and Insight Summaries from your journal entries
Before any data is sent to these AI services, Tellit asks for your explicit permission within the app. You must consent to AI data processing before you can record entries or generate insights. You can review what data is shared and with whom at any time in Settings > AI & Data.
Neither Modulate nor Anthropic use your data to train their AI models. Your recordings, transcripts, and insights are processed solely to provide you with the Tellit experience and are not retained by these services for any other purpose.
Tellit also relies on the following services to operate securely:
Supabase — Authentication, database storage, user account data, audio storage, session management.
RevenueCat — Subscription status management, Apple In-App Purchase receipt validation, and subscription lifecycle tracking (renewals, cancellations, expirations). RevenueCat receives your anonymous app user ID and subscription purchase data from Apple. RevenueCat does not receive your journal entries, audio recordings, transcripts, or insights.
Apple In-App Purchase — All subscription payment processing. Apple handles all payment information directly. We never see, store, or have access to your credit card or payment details.
Firebase Cloud Messaging — Push notifications (reminders, insights ready, collaboration invites, trial reminders).
Postmark — Account emails (verification, password resets).
None of these services are permitted to sell or share your data for advertising.
We use your data to:
Reflect your own themes, patterns, and emotions back to you
Generate Insight Summaries that weave in your own words across time periods
We never sell your information. We never share it with advertisers. We never use your voice recordings for marketing or training without consent.
Your audio follows a privacy-respecting chain:
Sent to Modulate for transcription (zero data retention — audio is not stored)
Transcript sent to Anthropic Claude for insight generation (not used for training)
At no point is your audio or transcript accessible to other users, advertisers, or any party beyond the services listed above.
Only authenticated users can access their own data
We retain your entries and account data until you delete them or delete your account. Once deleted, data is permanently removed from our databases within a reasonable time period.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
